i sewed it up to look like a frankenstein scar. straining at the seams. breast. shoulder. rib. pocket watch. wooden spoon. blood flowing along the insides of plastic striped straws. hastily shoving things in before the final stitch. handwriting. shoe polish. sea gull feathers.

hearing that sound, metal and wood and gauze suspended, caught, it is easy to imagine what it would all look like from the point of view of the x-ray.
