|| the kidney stone that got the ball a-rolling. ||

he was admitted to the hospital because of kidney stones. she was his nurse. she had long reddish hair and long lanky legs and he had a gap between his two front teeth and was fluent in spanish.

he was released from the hospital without incident. he was living in a van selling sand crabs to bait shops for pennies a pound. he called the hospital and asked to speak to the nurse. she was working graveyard shift. she remembered his hands. he asked her on a date and she accepted.

he picked her up in his van. he met her at her door barefoot. they saw the movie 'woodstock.'

he moved into her apartment approximately three weeks later.

three years later he came home to find her in the kitchen. 'either we get married or you have to move out,' she said, holding a spatula. they got married.

three years after that they were living in a house paid for in sand crabs. they each owned plaid pants and walked barefoot on shag carpet and painted bedroom walls on weekends. and then they had me.
