rinsing out paint brushes in the kitchen sink, watching colors bloom and touch the coffee pot, the tea cup, the noodles that escaped from the collander at dinner time. phone calls and tracing patterns on quilts. empty pages and typing fingers and stumbling over false starts.

the word alone is not inherently all jagged and uppercase, made of bricks and rocks and razors, jenny. it isn't supposed to be big enough to stop you from going outside and opening doors and looking at people in the face.

i know. but right now it is.
