|| paramount theater!!!! ! !! ||

last night ton and brian and i went to the paramount theater in lovely oakland, california, to see one of my very favorites, 'the apartment.' please drop whatever it is you are doing at the moment and get your bloomin arse over to the paramount theater. it is more spectacular than i ever imagined. the grandest grandest theater. i swear i cried three times. there are fancy rooms tucked away in corners and the fanciest powder room ever, all mirrors and art nouveau, and wide wide staircases haunted by ladies in fox fur and long gloves. there's a balcony and a mezzanine and a man who plays songs on a wurlitzer you can't help singing along to. there's the deco wheel a fancy lady in sequins spins for prizes (two tickets to fairyland!). and by the time the movie started, after wandering around and the movie trailers (for 'rebecca' ((touted as 'the most glamorous movie ever made!'!!)) and what was it? 'stage door'?) and the news reels and the cartoons and the deco wheel excitement, i would have been content to go home. so. so. lovely.

and that's not even counting the droves of incredibly attractive young people milling around. oy.
