|| sedimentary layers ||

you are in a completely different era in your life and i sometimes like to think about my being in a layer somehow way down beneath it all, like i am fossilized - my old shoes and yellow coat and the calculator watch i used to wear - beneath the foundation of the house your heart resides in now. ages and ages from now there will be an excavation and all the words that were ever spoken between us will have been forgotten, disintegrated like paper, but maybe somewhere in the petrified marrow of my bones there will be something clear like amber, familiar, something unmistakably belonging to you.
