|| the wake. ||

having the requisite minor freak out on the way into the chapel due to combination of puffy-eyed cousins and open casket and an auntie looking very small and wired. standing five feet away from the casket, seeing the tip of nose and not being able to move any further. mum and dad got lost on the way and i couldn't help feeling like they were annoyed upon arrival. they don't like that i cry about things, that i am a horrible mingler and prefer to sit and let my eyes well up and count the toes on the 6-foot wooden crucified jesus hanging above uncle just to make sure everything's in order. kelly is an excellent mingler/talker and chatted up cousins and husbands of cousins and uncles. i was introduced to the brother of the late uncle, who is an uncle sort of, who happens to be the bain of everyone's existence at this point for insensitivity and past funereal behavior including showing up with wife in matching terrycloth jumpsuits. no joke. his son who is roughly my age is in a band in san francisco. have i heard of this band? his son gets a lot of "gigs" and is doing quite well for himself. if you punch in his band's name on google you'll see him. he isn't successful yet, but if he could just get some "gigs" with bigger bands like "guns n roses or twisted sister" (omg wha?) he'd make it big. i know his son. this morning i relayed the story to owen. remember 1997-8 and the scenester guy with the waxed handlebar moustache who used to ride around the mission on a bicycle? he's my cousin in-law. scenester royalty right on my family tree. or orchard. mmhmm. later auntie shooed the talkative twisted sister-loving uncle away and she and mum discussed what will be put in the coffin, as part of the cw-kla family mischief tradition. he'll be buried wearing flip flops quite possibly, with a flask full of manhattan mix in his breast pocket and some cigars. it has not been determined whether the coupon box will be included, or the robe or the binoculars courtesy of dad.
