oh.
i just found myself in a very lovely friday midmorning moment. rain is beating down on the skylight in the middle of my office, and i am listening to ghost tropic by songs:ohia, which features these sweet bird sounds between songs.
it just sounded really nice there for a minute.
yesterday i was standing on the back porch and it had just started to rain. there were all these sounds, and i was able to hear each one: rain beating on the tin roof of the shed, the train passing through the station down the street, and birds. i don't know if i've noticed birds singing in the rain before.
on the day of joe's funeral, owen kept talking about the birds. how they were all in an uproar in their trees at both the catholic school parking lot and the cemetery. like they could sense what was going on beyond our demonstrations.

i spent the entirety of my parental christmas amazon.com gift certificate yesterday in about ten minutes. $100. gone. i was having the hardest time coming up with a spending plan because mad money like that makes me nervous. i am terribly indecisive and what if something better comes along in two months? what if i can't think of what i really want and it comes to me later? i sat down at my computer last night like a lady possessed and it was over before i knew it. no weighing of options or browsing for the best possible deal. it was mechanical and passionless, and as soon as it was all over i lay down and felt. well. dirty.
i don't come upon free money often. i don't tend to buy frivolous things (not because i object to it; i just have no spare money). i thought i would enjoy it more.
but. in any case. i give you:
