|| wind ||

i tried to sleep last night with the wind swirling around my room, amassing a tail of dried leaves and dust and stray paper, and i hid far under my covers and had all kinds of blustery dreams. the one i remember most took place in a mall or a roller rink, and my oldest friend julie was there. we were getting ready to take a greyhound bus either down to l.a. or up to san francisco with a band whose members i didn't know, but julie had cut a picture of them out of a newspaper and written their names under their faces so i would know who they were. and i remember riding on the freeway looking out and wishing i were somewhere else. not because of julie, mind you, because i love her. maybe it was the band. or the greyhound bus. or the windy weather.

this is my favorite kind of weather.. all dangerous windy with the leaves flying all over the place on san pablo avenue and half the stoplights not working. i kept waking up last night and this morning to listen to the wind whip around the outside of my apartment, to hear my windows open and slam shut, to hear the trashcans below take flight and hurl themselves against the fence and houses. it's so octobery. great pumpkin weather.

it reminds me of recess in elementary school when paper would get caught on the chain link fence and julie and i, our jackets zipped up and hoods over our heads would run to the fields and spread our arms out and try to fly up with the wind.
