|| freckle constellation ||

my very righteous writerly friend and i have a thing about freckles. freckles being stars. freckles forming constellations. in the sun today i was noticing my freckles on my arms. there are binary freckles bound together by gravity, orbitting around and around with slow tick tock calculation. and there are large dark ones and light very faded ones that you can't see when you look at them directly, you have to look a bit away for them to be visible. and i was thinking about how some of these freckles have been around since i was very young. born in the swimming pool in huntington beach, with the radio on and mum spraying us with the garden hose. from fishing on the boat every weekend with dad. from girl scout camp. some standing alone and some sprinkled in clusters, making up this very large map that winds around and around me, orbitting and expanding about the ribcage, galaxies on the arms and face and back, solitary universes on the stomach and legs. and some of them may be dead but there is some mathematical equation about light years and travelling to this atmosphere that keeps them visible until i forget about them and they go out completely.
